Who we are
About
One dude, a bunch of bikes, and a calendar for the rides worth driving to.
Who I is
Hi, I'm Vance. Just some dude that spends too much time in front of a computer or on a bike. This site is me scratching my own itch. That itch being that I like to use my bike to go to cool places and meet people who want to go to those places too. I do this by racing or going on big group rides. Those things can be kinda hard to discover, especially the smaller, local-flavored ones I gravitate toward. So I built this.
I'm also one of those big evil tech bros. Well, really I'm a guy who believed that the internet would help connect people, make us smart, make us empowered, and help folks find their community. Ya know, what we all envisioned in the 1990s. Yes I'm old. I do not like what it has become. I think the term is enshittification. As such you will find this site isn't trying to sell you to the highest bidder, trap you here, or upsell you — blah, blah, blah. If what I've made is useful, cool. If not, I'm sorry. If you'd like something added, tell me.
Who You is
You is a person who likes bikes, who likes to ride them for whatever reason, and at least sometimes likes to do bike things with other people.
What we believe
- Riders are never the product. You won't pay for the core services, and you'll never be the thing we sell to someone else.
- No surveillance, ever. No behavioral ad-tech, no data sales, no creepy tracking. We use privacy-respecting analytics or none at all.
- Rooted in place. We are where we are, and the calendar should feel like it.
- Built to last and built to be fast. The site is lightweight, works on old phones and slow signal, and respects your battery and your data plan.
- Your data is yours. Data portability is a basic right. We don't stop at what privacy laws require — we go way past them. (Our privacy laws are a joke — tell your representative.)
How we keep the lights on
Right now, I can afford to just do this. But yeah — this'll probably become a business. If it's useful, it needs care and attention, and that takes time. And I like to eat. And buy bikes.
