That elevation buys you cooler temps than the surrounding desert — think 70s and 80s in late July — but it also means late-afternoon monsoons are a genuine possibility. The road stays open to public traffic throughout\, so stay sharp.\n\nOne distance on the card at 16.8 miles\, with an aid station roughly at the halfway turnaround.
